The motion, moved without notice by the House Leader, Abdulkadir Magaji, cited Order 4, Rule 14 of the House’s privileges rules and Section 14(2) of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act 2017.
During debates on the matter, Gideon admitted to committing the offence.
Contributors to the discussion included Ganiyu Salaudeen (Omupo), Musa Kareem (Patigi), Owolabi Rasaq (Shaare Oke Ode), Abdullahi Danbaba (Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe), and Oniboki Yunusa (Afon).
In its resolution, the House stated that the unauthorised recording “is capable of bringing the legislative institution to disrepute” and determined that Gideon’s actions amounted to contempt and a breach of privilege.
Gideon has been ordered to submit a formal apology to the House within the suspension period.
