Rivers Assembly backing Tinubu for a second term, citing federal projects and his role in stabilising the state during its political crisis
PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria, 4 December 2025: The Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, with lawmakers praising the Federal Government projects and stabilising interventions recorded under his administration.

The resolution, which formed the basis of the Rivers Assembly backing Tinubu, was read at plenary by House Leader Major Jack of Akuku Toru.
The endorsement was communicated through a motion signed by 26 members during the 37th Legislative Session.
The lawmakers said the vote of confidence became necessary to ensure continuity of what they described as transformative national programmes.
The members recalled President Tinubu’s role during the state’s recent political turmoil and credited him with providing calm, fatherly intervention at a critical moment.
They said his commitment to peace and stability demonstrated genuine support for the people of Rivers State.
The House also commended the President for appointing respected indigenes of the state into key positions within the Federal Government.
According to the lawmakers, the appointments have strengthened the state’s relationship with Abuja and lifted the morale of local political actors.
Speaker Martin Amaewhule of Obio Akpor I said President Tinubu had shown himself to be a compassionate leader who was determined to reposition Nigeria for sustained growth.
He applauded the administration’s economic policies, describing them as impactful and people oriented.
Amaewhule noted that many of these policies, although demanding, were essential to rebuilding confidence in the national economy.
Lawmakers further pledged to mobilise grassroots support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
They also reaffirmed their loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, acknowledging his influence in shaping political alignment within the state.

The session ended with members reiterating their commitment to champion federal initiatives across their constituencies, which they said would yield lasting benefits for residents.
