Uzodimma Calls 2023 South-East Vote Mistake, Eyes 2027 Win

Uzodimma South-East 2023 election mistake remarks as Imo governor says region will not repeat voting pattern in 2027 polls

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has described the South-East’s voting pattern in the 2023 general elections as a “wrong political calculation”, insisting that the region will not repeat what he termed a political misstep in the 2027 elections.

Governor Uzodimma made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving leaders of the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, at the Government House in Owerri.

Uzodimma Calls South-East 2023 Election a Political Mistake comment comes amid renewed political positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle, with the governor urging leaders in the region to prioritise unity and collective interest over partisan differences.

Reflecting on the 2023 presidential election, Uzodimma noted that the South-East overwhelmingly supported Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, describing the outcome as a “political accident” that should not be repeated.

He stated that stronger alignment with the ruling APC would better position the region to influence national decisions and benefit from federal initiatives, arguing that political participation at the centre brings tangible dividends.

Uzodimma further expressed confidence that the APC could secure significant support in the South-East during the 2027 elections, projecting a favourable outcome for President Bola Tinubu.
