PDP’s Ememobong warns Senate against ignoring Nigerians after rejecting mandatory electronic results transmission
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the Nigerian Senate against underestimating Nigerians’ patience following reports that the Senate rejected the proposed mandatory electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong emphasized that legislators have a primary duty to legislate effectively to strengthen democratic processes.
“If the Supreme Court has identified gaps and referred the matter back to the National Assembly, it is the primary duty of lawmakers to legislate appropriately for the administration of this country,” Ememobong said.
The PDP spokesman warned that Nigerians are patient but that tolerance should not be abused, citing the #EndSARS movement as an example of citizens asserting themselves when pushed to the limit.
Ememobong further stressed the importance of improving the quality of future elections, noting that only 26 per cent of registered voters participated in the last election—a clear sign of voter apathy.
“The idea of democratic consolidation means that every election should be better than the previous one in every material respect,” he stated.

The comments come after the Senate reportedly rejected a proposed amendment to Clause 60, subsection 3 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, which aimed to make electronic transmission of election results compulsory, a measure widely viewed as critical for transparency and public trust.
