In a statement issued on Thursday, Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo said the PDP, once a dominant national political platform, has become a shadow of its former self due to persistent internal crises and lack of ideological direction.
Oladejo highlighted ongoing leadership struggles, deep divisions, and the absence of a clear political vision as factors weakening the PDP’s standing in Nigeria’s political space.
“Once presented as a national platform with lofty promises, the PDP has now set an unwanted record in the annals of Nigeria’s democratic journey becoming a party that appears to be actively counting down to its own expiration,” he said.
The Lagos APC also criticised the PDP’s years in power, describing them as marked by poor governance and economic mismanagement.
“Nigerians still recall with shivers what the PDP represented during its years in power years many citizens now remember as the better-forgotten era of the locust, a period that set our nation back by decades,” Oladejo stated.
According to the APC, the PDP has failed to learn from past mistakes, and internal discord continues to undermine unity.
“What Nigerians are witnessing today within the party is not accidental; it is the natural consequence of years of political arrogance, poor leadership culture, and disregard for institutional discipline,” the statement added.
The party argued that the situation within the PDP reflects a cycle of self-inflicted decline.
“Indeed, the unfolding crisis within the PDP resembles a classic demonstration of the law of karma. A party whose governance philosophy many believed worked against the long-term interests of the Nigerian state now finds itself trapped in a cycle of implosion and self-inflicted decline,” Oladejo said.
The Lagos APC further claimed that the PDP’s influence in Lagos has waned as residents continue to support the APC’s governance approach.
“In Lagos State, the PDP’s presence has steadily diminished as the people continue to place their trust in the progressive governance and development-oriented policies of the APC,” he noted.
While acknowledging the importance of opposition in a democracy, the APC said the PDP has repeatedly failed to play that role effectively.
The statement urged the opposition party to reassess its internal situation, emphasising that Nigeria’s democracy deserves a more organised and credible opposition.

“As a party grounded in progressive ideals and accountable governance, the APC in Lagos State will remain focused on what truly matters: delivering tangible development, strengthening democratic institutions, and improving the quality of life for the people,” Oladejo concluded.
