Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has described ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as a “fantastic man” who is not suited to become Nigeria’s President.

Speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, Melaye expressed admiration for Obi but questioned his ability to unify the country ahead of the 2027 elections. “Peter Obi is a fantastic Nigerian.
I have tremendous respect for him, and I’ve said it before, he is a fantastic person, but this is not his time to be President,” Melaye said.
Peter Obi has repeatedly declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential poll. Melaye, who previously contested the Kogi State gubernatorial election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and lost to incumbent governor Ahmed Ododo, maintained that leadership requires the capacity to bring together diverse groups.

His remarks add to ongoing discussions among political stakeholders as parties prepare for the 2027 electoral cycle, highlighting debates about candidates’ electability and national appeal.
