PDP Dismisses APC’s Plateau 2027 Claim as Unrealistic

PDP Plateau 2027 Election: PDP says APC’s 2027 governorship claim in Plateau State is mere rhetoric, insisting only the people can choose their leader

PDP Plateau 2027 Election plans are firmly in motion, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State brushing aside claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) of installing a governor in the next general elections as “unrealistic” and rooted in “mere ambition”.

Reacting to comments made by APC’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, during a live radio appearance in Jos on Tuesday, the PDP said that the political reality on the ground strongly favours continuity under the current PDP-led administration.

State PDP Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Amande, asserted that Professor Yilwatda’s optimism was a misreading of Plateau’s political temperature, stating:

“While the PDP acknowledges that Professor Nentawe is free to dream and express his opinion, it is worth reminding him that producing the next governor of our dear State requires far more than mere ambition or rhetoric.”

Amande underscored the PDP’s longstanding presence in Plateau State, pointing to its solid structures across all wards, a legacy of governance, and its commitment to the people’s welfare under the leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

He added that leadership is not dictated by political elites or national party bosses, but by broad-based acceptance, service delivery, and trust earned through governance—qualities he said the PDP has consistently demonstrated.

“Leadership is not about personal aspiration but about broad-based acceptance and the demonstrated capacity to win the confidence of the electorate,” Amande noted.

The PDP said it remains focused on deepening internal cohesion and expanding its development agenda, stating:

“Our focus remains on strengthening our unity, consolidating democratic gains, and working closely with the people to ensure more progress and development in the State.”

Looking ahead to 2027, the PDP pledged to engage constructively with voters and uphold fairness, accountability, and transparency as guiding principles.

The party also urged APC stakeholders like Professor Yilwatda to understand that governance is about trust and not imposition, while assuring members that the party is fully prepared to earn the people’s mandate once again.

Concluding its response, the PDP called on its members, supporters, and the general electorate in Plateau to remain confident in the party’s ability to deliver results, insisting:
