ADC Tinubu economic policies criticism grows as Bolaji Abdullahi warns of economic hardship, insecurity and governance challenges in Nigeria
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that Nigeria could face deeper challenges if President Bola Tinubu’s administration continues with what the opposition party described as a “failed mandate”, citing economic hardship, insecurity and limited job opportunities as major concerns.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the remarks during an interview with Symfoni TV, where he criticised the federal government’s handling of the economy and other national issues.
Abdullahi argued that the impact of government policies has increased pressure on citizens and businesses, claiming that many Nigerians are struggling with rising costs and declining economic opportunities.
“If Nigeria continues to stand on President Tinubu’s failed mandate, this country may just collapse,” Abdullahi said.
He alleged that businesses across the country are facing difficult conditions and that some entrepreneurs have experienced significant losses despite having done nothing wrong.
“Businesses are collapsing every day. I’ve met people who cry and say, ‘Look, we did not do anything wrong, but our businesses have collapsed,’” he said.
The ADC spokesperson also criticised the government’s performance on security, pointing to recent concerns surrounding the abduction and release of schoolchildren in Oyo State.
He referenced comments by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who had raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident and called for further investigation.
Abdullahi said issues involving insecurity should be treated seriously, particularly when public officials raise concerns about possible wider factors behind security challenges.
On the economy, the ADC spokesman focused on the removal of fuel subsidy, one of the major reforms introduced by President Tinubu after assuming office in 2023.
He acknowledged that supporters of the administration often point to subsidy removal as a major achievement but argued that the consequences of the policy have placed additional pressure on Nigerians.
“It’s not the removal of the subsidy, but the net consequence of the removal of subsidy is what has landed us in this catastrophic situation we found ourselves,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC official accused the government of failing to adequately cushion the effects of its economic reforms, particularly for vulnerable citizens and small businesses.
The Tinubu administration has consistently defended its economic measures, including subsidy reforms and other policy changes, arguing that they are designed to address long-standing structural problems, attract investment and create a stronger foundation for long-term growth.
Government officials have maintained that the reforms are part of a broader effort to stabilise Nigeria’s economy, although the policies have attracted criticism from opposition parties, labour groups and some citizens over their immediate impact.

The ADC’s latest comments come as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with economic performance, security and governance expected to remain central issues in public debate.
