Sule Lamido Backs ADC Alliance, Stays Loyal to PDP

Sule Lamido backs ADC but insists his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party remains unshaken amid growing opposition unity talks

Sule Lamido backs ADC but has reaffirmed his unshakable commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party, even as opposition forces intensify efforts to unite against the ruling APC.

Speaking in Dutse at a weekend empowerment rally hosted by Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, Lamido clarified that his support for the African Democratic Congress is strategic, not a shift in political allegiance.

“Yes, I support the coming together of the opposition under the ADC,” Lamido said, “but let it be known I will never leave the PDP. I built this house with my sweat and soul.”

Lamido, a founding PDP stalwart and former Jigawa State governor, lashed out at the APC-led government, accusing both state and federal actors of governance failure.

He praised the performance of PDP lawmakers from Jigawa, contrasting them with what he called the selfish posturing of their APC counterparts.

His remarks came amid heightened criticism of the APC’s handling of Nigeria’s political legacy, especially in light of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The ADC, now a rallying base for several disgruntled opposition groups, including those led by Senator David Mark, condemned the federal government’s public grief, labelling it hypocritical.

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi declared that the party would begin a three-day mourning period nationwide, stressing Buhari’s moral example and popularity among the poor.

“Regardless of political affiliations, what cannot be denied is that President Buhari served this country with a fierce sense of duty,” he said.

Still, the ADC accused the APC of political opportunism, stating that the same actors who blamed Buhari for Nigeria’s woes were now “posturing as the chief mourners.”

Lamido, meanwhile, introduced ADC state chairman Kabiru Hussaini to PDP supporters at the rally, signalling what appears to be a coordinated front across party lines.

Though the move sparked speculation, Lamido’s message was clear—united opposition is the path forward, but the PDP remains his political home.

Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, who organised the rally, mirrored Lamido’s position. “From 1999 to 2015, and especially under Sule Lamido, Jigawa knew what development looked like,” he told the crowd.

“What do we have now? APC has brought nothing but hunger and hopelessness.”

He touted his empowerment efforts as a continuation of the PDP legacy, noting that over 3,000 constituents received agricultural and industrial tools in the last year alone.

These included irrigation machines, solar-powered units, sewing machines, sprayers, and paddy threshers.

“We’re not waiting for miracles, we’re working,” Khabeeb said. “Just like we did last year and in 2023, we’re lifting our people out of poverty one tool, one machine at a time.”

The event ended in a show of party strength, with chants of “PDP forever” ringing through Dutse’s main square.

With Lamido’s dual posture—open to alliance, firm on loyalty—the mood among supporters suggested growing momentum for a broad-based coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.

As PDP and ADC continue to shape their roles in post-Buhari Nigeria, the lines between ideological camps may blur, but Lamido’s stance remains a pivotal point in the national political dialogue.
