Cross River APC PDP clash heats up as ruling party dismisses PDP’s 2027 comeback bid, calling it a political joke and reaffirming support for Governor Otu.
Cross River APC PDP Clash has intensified as the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s claims of reclaiming power in the 2027 general elections, describing the opposition’s ambition as “an empty boast and political comedy.”

The sharp response came Thursday through a statement signed by APC’s Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Inyang, who ridiculed the PDP’s political strength in the state, asserting that it had lost both relevance and grassroots support.
“Ordinarily, we would not waste time responding to their blithering,” the APC stated, “but we must remind Cross Riverians that even when the PDP was stronger, the APC defeated it convincingly.”
The Cross River APC PDP clash is part of a long-standing political rivalry that reflects Nigeria’s broader two-party power struggle.
The PDP had ruled Cross River from 1999 until 2015, before cracks in its dominance led to former Governor Ben Ayade’s defection to the APC in 2021.
That move shifted the political dynamics and paved the way for APC’s control in the 2023 elections.
Inyang further described the PDP’s recent meeting in Calabar, led by state chairman Venatius Ikem, as “hollow” and an act of desperation aimed at fabricating relevance.
“Their ambition in 2027 is dead on arrival,” he said, emphasizing that PDP’s internal disunity and mass defection of its members to APC had weakened the party beyond repair.
The APC reassured supporters of Governor Bassey Otu’s re-election bid, calling it “as certain as daybreak and nightfall,” while encouraging residents to stay loyal to the ‘People First’ administration.
“No amount of wishful thinking or press conferences by PDP leaders can alter the political reality,” the APC concluded.
“Cross Riverians have chosen progress, and that progress lies with the APC.”
