Nigeria Democracy 2027 Warning by Sam Amadi as he predicts worsening democracy and criticises electoral and judicial systems

Sam Amadi criticised the internal workings of political parties and the effectiveness of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
He argued that political parties in Nigeria lack internal democracy, while also questioning the effectiveness of the judiciary in resolving electoral disputes.
According to Sam Amadi, the judiciary has become increasingly ineffective in handling political matters, adding that existing electoral laws appear to limit judicial review in key cases.
“In 2027, we are going to have worse democracy than it currently is,” Sam Amadi said.
“The Nigerian party system doesn’t have internal democracy, and the reason for that is structural and normative.”
He further described aspects of the judiciary as deeply problematic, stating that electoral processes often leave little room for meaningful legal intervention.
Amadi also cautioned against overconfidence in the use of technology by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging Nigerians to demand greater transparency and accountability.
Sam Amadi made similar remarks at the Citizens Town Hall Meeting on the Electoral Act 2026 in Abuja, where he called for a bipartisan audit commission to review INEC’s technological systems.
He referenced the 2023 general elections, stating that unresolved controversies surrounding the process had not been adequately addressed through public scrutiny.
“The National Assembly did not conduct one public hearing; nobody was put on oath… That is shambolic,” he said.
