Turaki Bloc Expels Wike, Fayose in PDP Crisis

The Turaki-led PDP faction expels Nyesom Wike, Ayodele Fayose and nine others, reinforcing party discipline ahead of the 2026 elections

Abuja, Nigeria – The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday formally expelled Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and nine other members, deepening the party’s ongoing crisis.

The expulsion certificates were displayed by Turaki during a press briefing at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro.

Turaki said the action was taken to uphold decisions of the PDP national convention in Ibadan and to prevent violations of Nigerian laws regarding dual party membership.

“Now that they are no longer members of our party, we have decided to issue them certificates of expulsion,” he said, noting that all 11 certificates had been dispatched via courier.

The expelled members include Wike, Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Honourable Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade, Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Nnanna, George Turna, and Chief Dan Orbih.

Turaki urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Nigerian Police Force, and other agencies to take note of their status.

Addressing concerns over Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Turaki emphasised that citizens retain constitutional rights to freedom of association.

“Governor Adeleke, like any other person, has the right to move on; he is free to leave any political party,” he said.

Turaki also discussed preparations for the 2026 Osun governorship election, affirming that the party’s processes for selecting ad hoc delegates and conducting the governorship primary were orderly, transparent, and rancour-free.

He added that the new National Working Committee was reviewing handover notes from outgoing executives to ensure continuity.

The former Minister of Special Duties criticised the Federal Government for failing to address insecurity nationwide. “Nigerians are not safe on the streets, in offices, markets, farms, or homes.

This situation of perpetual fear must change,” Turaki said, urging a review of the security architecture to empower governors to oversee security operations in their states.
