Jonathan 2027 presidential bid rumours dismissed as Jude Imagwe says ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has not taken any nomination steps
Former Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Jude Imagwe, on Tuesday said there is no evidence that the former Nigerian leader has obtained, completed or submitted any nomination forms in relation to a purported 2027 presidential bid.

Imagwe made the clarification during a televised interview on News Central Television, where he responded to claims linked to a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Taminu Turaki, which had reportedly declared Jonathan as its presidential candidate ahead of the next general election cycle.
The Jonathan 2027 presidential bid speculation has circulated within political circles in recent weeks, but Imagwe firmly dismissed suggestions that the former president had taken any formal steps towards contesting.
He stated that Goodluck Jonathan is neither desperate for political power nor motivated by a desire to return to office, stressing that the former president’s legacy and personal disposition do not align with such ambitions.
Imagwe argued that Jonathan’s decision to leave office in 2015 remained evidence of his commitment to democratic principles, describing him as a leader who is content with his post-presidential life.
He further cautioned against what he described as attempts by politically motivated actors to drag Jonathan’s name into early campaign narratives, insisting that the former president has not publicly indicated any interest in the 2027 race.
According to him, there are no signed nomination forms, pictorial evidence or official documentation suggesting involvement in any ongoing presidential primary process.
He emphasised that any legitimate nomination process would require clear and verifiable documentation, none of which he said exists in Jonathan’s case.
Imagwe’s comments add further clarity to the ongoing Jonathan 2027 presidential bid discussions, which continue to generate debate within political and party structures across the country.
