Supporters Shocked as Fubara Embraces Peace with Wike

Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara embraces peace with Nyesom Wike, citing Tinubu’s intervention and prioritising state development despite personal pain

Fubara Wike peace deal has been publicly endorsed by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who urged his supporters to embrace reconciliation with his predecessor and political mentor, Nyesom Wike.

Addressing members of his Simplified Family in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Fubara acknowledged the peace terms as difficult but necessary for the progress of the state.

Describing the agreement as “heavy” and “bitter,” the governor said it was borne out of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for both parties to settle their differences.

“President Tinubu clearly said, ‘I want you and your oga to settle,’” Fubara revealed, emphasising the importance of national unity and leadership guidance.

He paid tribute to Wike’s influence on his political journey, stating, “Nobody can take away the role my oga played.

That’s the truth. Yes, we might have our differences, but nobody here will say he doesn’t know the role the man played.”

Fubara acknowledged the personal pain on both sides of the rift. “At this point, I’ve met him, and we have spoken; you can’t take away his not being hurt; he’s a human being.

I also have my own share of pains too,” he said, stressing the emotional cost of political conflict.

Reiterating his commitment to the state’s development, the governor declared, “There’s no price that is too big for peace. I meant it, and I’m still ready to follow it to the end.”

He urged supporters to prioritise the interest of Rivers State above emotions or personal preferences.

“I want to appeal to everyone. I have accepted that we must accept this peace no matter how it looks, no matter how you feel, we must accept it.”

Citing abandoned projects during the crisis, Fubara lamented the toll of political instability. “In the midst of this crisis with me and my oga, look at the projects we’ve initiated. Many have been abandoned,” he observed.

To reassure his supporters, the governor pledged unwavering loyalty. “I can’t abandon you people. That’s one thing I need to say here. This is the time for me to prove to you that I care for you.”

He used the metaphor of a tilapia fish to describe political wisdom in difficult times: “The mother tilapia used to tell the kids that if they want to grow up to my own size, hide your head inside the mud.”

Fubara concluded with a note of hope. “Without a total reconciliation, which, by the grace of God, the both of us have gotten to, there’s no way we can make progress in this state.”
