Dele Momodu urges Tinubu to focus on achievements ahead of 2027, saying voters will judge the president by his performance in office
African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on presenting his administration’s achievements to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election rather than relying on political messaging.

Momodu made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, 3 August 2026, where he said the outcome of the next election would largely depend on how voters assess the government’s performance.
The publisher of Ovation Magazine argued that Tinubu’s chances of securing another term would be strengthened if the administration could clearly demonstrate its record and impact on Nigerians.
“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. It is about performance. Present your scorecards,” Momodu said.
The ADC chieftain also urged members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus more on communicating policy achievements rather than attacking opposition figures or previous administrations.
Momodu criticised what he described as the APC’s repeated references to the conditions it inherited from earlier governments, arguing that the party should concentrate on explaining its own results after being in power for several years.
“What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy. I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC,” he said.
He questioned what tangible improvements had been delivered by the government after more than three years in office, particularly in areas affecting the daily lives of Nigerians.
The comments come as political parties and potential contenders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election, with debates increasingly focused on economic performance, governance and public confidence.
Momodu also commented on former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent remarks about his past political decisions, including his choice of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as running mate.
He claimed that Obasanjo remained opposed to Atiku’s ambition to become Nigeria’s president, though the former president’s current position on the matter was not directly confirmed in the interview.
The remarks add to the growing political discourse surrounding the 2027 election, as the ruling party and opposition groups prepare their strategies for what is expected to be a closely contested campaign.
