Bwala Says Past Criticism of Tinubu Is Now Baseless, Not Lies

Bwala past criticism of Tinubu is now baseless, not lies, the presidential aide says while defending his changed stance during a TV interview

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has defended his previous criticisms of the President, saying they are now “baseless” and no longer relevant to current political realities, but insisting they were not lies.

Bwala made the remarks during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday while responding to questions from anchor Seun Okinbaloye about comments he made before joining the Tinubu administration.

The presidential aide was asked whether describing his past remarks as baseless amounted to admitting they were false.

“They are not lies. They are baseless. Not important for conversation,” Bwala replied.

The exchange became tense as Bwala questioned why the issue continued to dominate discussions, saying he had repeatedly addressed the matter.

“When will you get tired of asking me the same question?” he asked.

Bwala argued that public discourse should focus on issues affecting Nigerians rather than his political past.

According to him, the country’s economy, education and security deserve greater attention than statements he made before becoming part of the current administration.

He also accused the interviewer of amplifying the opposition’s narrative.

“The joblessness of the opposition, it seems they have carried you in that bus,” Bwala said.

During the interview, Bwala highlighted what he described as the Tinubu administration’s progress in strengthening collaboration among Nigeria’s security agencies and international partners.

He also pointed to a recent letter from United States President Donald Trump, which he said commended President Tinubu’s leadership and reflected improving security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

Bwala questioned why discussions around the letter had received less attention than his previous comments about the President.

“Nigerians want to hear what is happening to their lives, their economy, education and, most importantly, security,” he said.

The presidential aide further argued that politicians who change positions or switch political parties are not subjected to the same level of scrutiny by the media.

Bwala was previously a vocal critic of President Tinubu before joining the administration, making his political transition a recurring subject in interviews and public commentary.

His latest remarks underscore the continued public interest in political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, as members of the administration and opposition defend their evolving positions.
