Fubara betrayal of Rivers people allegation emerges as ex-PDP chair Robinson Ewor accuses the governor of misleading supporters over Wike dispute
Former Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acting chairman, Robinson Ewor, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, accused Governor Sim Fubara of betraying the people of Rivers State, alleging that the governor failed to maintain openness and transparency during his political dispute with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

Ewor made the claims during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he criticised Fubara’s handling of the crisis that had divided political interests in Rivers State.
The former PDP chieftain alleged that Fubara created the impression that Wike was preventing him from effectively governing the state, a belief that influenced the support many political leaders and residents offered the governor.
“It’s Fubara himself who betrayed the people of Rivers. If Fubara had been open, transparent, and communicated with the people of Rivers, I don’t think the women would have taken to the streets,” Ewor said.
He added that he was among those who publicly criticised Wike because he believed the FCT minister was responsible for limiting Fubara’s ability to govern.
“I said several unprintable words against the FCT Minister believing that he was stopping Fubara from doing his work but at the end of the day, we discovered that it wasn’t so,” he stated.
Ewor further claimed that the governor had not adequately explained his position to Rivers residents, arguing that clearer communication could have prevented some of the actions taken by supporters during the political crisis.
The comments come amid the long-running political disagreement between Fubara and Wike, who were once close allies before their relationship deteriorated, leading to divisions within the state’s political structure.
The dispute triggered protests, legal battles and interventions from political stakeholders seeking to restore stability in Rivers State.
Ewor said he believed the situation had eventually redirected political alignments in the state, adding that the developments had brought Rivers people back to what he described as the “Rainbow Coalition”.
The Rivers State Government has not issued a response to Ewor’s allegations.

The political tension between Fubara and Wike remains one of the most closely watched internal disputes within Nigeria’s political landscape, with both sides facing pressure to prioritise governance and stability in the state.
