Tinubu Appoints Bianca Ojukwu as Foreign Affairs Minister

President Tinubu appoints Bianca Ojukwu as Foreign Affairs Minister following Tuggar’s resignation, alongside new ministerial nomination for Senate approval

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirming a significant reshuffle within Nigeria’s foreign affairs leadership.

Tuggar’s resignation came after President Tinubu directed all political appointees intending to contest elective positions in the 2027 elections to vacate their offices by March 31, in line with electoral guidelines and internal government policy.

Bianca Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, now assumes full leadership of the ministry, bringing diplomatic experience and continuity to Nigeria’s external relations portfolio.

In a related appointment, the President also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending Senate confirmation.

Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

A seasoned diplomat with over three decades of service, Enikanolaiye has held several senior postings across global diplomatic missions, including assignments in Addis Ababa, London, Ottawa, Belgrade and New Delhi.

He also previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The presidency said the appointments are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement, advancing economic diplomacy, and protecting the interests of citizens abroad.
