Ekong disclosed the development on Wednesday in Lagos, expressing concern over what she described as ongoing leadership disputes and legal battles affecting the Labour Party since 2023.

She said her decision was driven by the need to secure her political future and operate within a more stable political structure.

Ekong confirmed that she currently serves as the Southwest Vice Chairman of the NDC, adding that preparations were underway to organise smooth and credible congresses in the region.

According to her, the move marks a new phase in her political career, with a stronger focus on long-term participation in governance and party development.

She described her former party’s internal situation as challenging, noting that persistent disputes made continued engagement difficult.

Ekong added that the NDC presents what she considers a promising political alternative, describing the party as one gaining momentum nationally.

She said her ambition and political aspirations remain intact, and that her decision reflects a desire to remain active in a more structured environment.
