ADC Jigawa Primary Delay Sparks Shocking Political Tension

ADC Jigawa primary delay continues as result announcement stalls amid tension between aspirants Adamu Jumbo and Sabo Nakudu

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State has failed to announce official results of its governorship and other elective primaries 72 hours after voting commenced, as internal tensions and unresolved disputes continue to stall collation proceedings in Dutse, the state capital.

The prolonged delay has been largely attributed to a fiercely contested governorship primary between Hon. Adamu Jumbo and Senator Sabo Nakudu, which party insiders described as highly competitive and difficult to conclude due to ongoing disputes over results from several local government areas.

The election delay has drawn growing attention within party circles, as stakeholders await clarity on one of the most closely watched contests in the state.

The primaries, which began on Monday, May 25, 2026, covered positions including the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship and presidential slots. However, no official declaration has been made as of press time.

The Chairman of the ADC Electoral Committee for Jigawa State, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Zaki Ahmed, addressed delegates and stakeholders at about 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday at Tahir Hotel, Dutse, which served as the designated collation centre for the exercise.

Ahmed announced a temporary postponement of the collation process, citing unresolved issues surrounding the governorship contest and the need for further verification of results.

Observers at the venue reported a tense atmosphere, with supporters of both major aspirants expressing confidence in eventual victory despite the delay.

Party officials maintained that the suspension of collation was necessary to safeguard transparency, credibility and fairness in the electoral process.

According to Ahmed, results had been received from 19 out of the 27 local government areas, while results from eight councils, including Auyo, Roni and Kazaure, were still being awaited.

He further noted that irregularities were recorded in Babura, Hadejia and Gwaram local government areas, while no election was conducted in Guri Local Government Area due to factional disputes within the party.

Ahmed added that outstanding results from remaining local councils were expected, after which final collation and announcement would be concluded.

Despite the uncertainty, party members and delegates continued to gather at the collation centre, waiting for the eventual outcome of the governorship race between the leading contenders.
