The former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) extended his greetings in a heartfelt post on his official X handle on Tuesday.

“I extend my warmest birthday wishes to my brother, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso @KwankwasoRM, as you turn 69 today,” Atiku wrote.

“Your unwavering dedication to public service, education, and national development continues to inspire many across generations.”

He added, “I celebrate with you and your family, and your friends and well-wishers on this special day and pray for your continued good health and vitality in the years ahead.”

Born on October 21, 1956, Senator Kwankwaso’s public service journey spans over three decades. His political career began in earnest in 1992 when he was elected to the House of Representatives representing Madobi Federal Constituency, later rising to the position of Deputy Speaker.

He served as Governor of Kano State from 1999 to 2003 and again from 2011 to 2015. Between those terms, Kwankwaso was appointed Minister of Defence during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration — a role in which he was lauded for reforming key military policies.

From 2015 to 2019, he represented Kano Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate. In recent years, he emerged as the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and was its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.

Kwankwaso is widely recognised for his commitment to education, youth empowerment, and governance reform, particularly in northern Nigeria.

While both Atiku and Kwankwaso have contested against each other in past presidential races, Atiku’s warm tribute signals a tone of mutual respect between two seasoned political figures.
