Governor Abdullahi Sule Praises APC Defections Surge

Governor Abdullahi Sule praises APC defections, crediting President Tinubu’s reforms for attracting top politicians ahead of 2027 elections.

The Nasarawa State Governor made this statement on Monday in Lafia during a ceremony welcoming Senator Ahmed Wadada back to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Sule asserted that the wave of defections by governors, senators, and influential politicians reflects growing alignment with Tinubu’s policies aimed at steering Nigeria towards long-term stability and progress.

“I want to specifically congratulate our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the governor said.

“It is because of the good reforms he is bringing in — and courageous ones for that matter — that today, whenever progressive governors meet, we are welcoming another governor into our party.”

Recounting recent events, Governor Sule revealed that three governors had joined or rejoined the APC in the past few days alone.

“This isn’t about election strategy,” he noted, “they are returning because they align with the President’s direction for the nation.”

Welcoming Senator Wadada to the APC fold, Sule lauded his decision to rejoin the party instead of remaining in the opposition.

“I thank you for believing in our party,” he said, presenting the symbolic party broom to mark the senator’s return.

In his remarks, Senator Wadada affirmed his loyalty to Governor Sule’s leadership in Nasarawa and praised the administration for maintaining peace and unity — two factors he said were instrumental in convincing his supporters to follow him back to the APC.

“Our people are here not just because of me,” Wadada explained. “If the state wasn’t peaceful, they wouldn’t be here. Your stewardship has made this return possible.”

Wadada, who represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, announced the donation of 18 vehicles to APC party leaders across senatorial zones and local government areas in support of party mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Also speaking at the event, the APC Chairman in Nasarawa State, Aliyu Bello, assured Wadada and his team of equal opportunity within the party structure, reiterating that only credible and widely accepted candidates would receive the party’s support.

Bello thanked Governor Sule for providing critical infrastructure in security, education, and health — achievements he said were drawing more politicians into the APC fold. “You’ve done enough to ensure the steady progress of our party,” he said.
