Anambra Electricity Regulatory Commission Inaugurated by Soludo Government

Anambra State under Governor Soludo establishes the Anambra Electricity Regulatory Commission to boost energy infrastructure and economic transformation

In a bold move to reshape energy infrastructure in South-East Nigeria, the Anambra Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC) has been formally set in motion by the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) under the leadership of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

At its 10th executive meeting, ANSEC approved the establishment of ASERC as part of the implementation of the newly assented Anambra State Electricity Law. The move, according to Information Commissioner Law Mefor, includes a recruitment initiative for subject-matter experts to serve on the commission.

“This is a crucial step in creating a functional, independent electricity market in Anambra,” said Mefor. “It shows the Soludo administration is focused on laying down the right regulatory and structural foundations for long-term prosperity.”

The new commission aims to oversee energy governance, attract investment, and ensure reliable electricity supply across the state. It is a cornerstone in Governor Soludo’s broader plan to transform Anambra into the Dubai-Taiwan-Silicon Valley of Nigeria.

In addition to the electricity reforms, the Executive Council also unveiled a symbolic milestone—the naming of the newly completed Government House Mini-City as the Light House Awka, aligning with the state’s motto: Light of the Nation. The 34-year infrastructure jinx was broken with the development of the Light House Awka, which includes over 24 structures, a world-class amphitheatre, and a state-of-the-art auditorium, all linked by the eight-lane Emeka Anyaoku Boulevard.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who recently commissioned the project, remarked during the event, “Anambra is rising, and we are ready to work with you.”

The state’s executive council further discussed ongoing plans to restore moral and social frameworks and leave a lasting legacy of reform and inclusive governance under Governor Soludo’s leadership.

With ASERC now under construction, stakeholders across Nigeria are watching closely as Anambra positions itself as a new hub for industrialisation, powered by regulatory reform and visionary governance.
