In a 600-page biography titled From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, authored by Charles Omole, Aisha recounted how the 2017 health crisis of her husband stemmed from a disrupted feeding routine rather than poisoning or mysterious illness.
The book was launched at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with attendance from high-profile figures, including President Bola Tinubu.
Aisha explained that she had long overseen Buhari’s meals and supplements at specific hours, a regimen she described as essential for stability.
“Elderly bodies require gentle, consistent support,” she wrote, detailing how a carefully monitored plan was instituted when they moved into Aso Villa.
However, gossip and fearmongering about her intentions caused Buhari to lock his room and alter his habits.
“My husband believed them for a week or so… meals were delayed or missed; the supplements were stopped. For a year, he did not have lunch. They mismanaged his meals,” she said.
Aisha emphasised that the late president’s health decline began with the loss of his routine, dismissing claims of poisoning.
Buhari had spent over 150 days in the United Kingdom in 2017 for medical treatment, returning to Nigeria on August 19, 2017, after 103 days abroad.
