According to the Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, Governor Adeleke, who was the sole aspirant, received 145 of the 150 votes cast by delegates from the state’s 30 local government areas. Five votes were declared invalid.
Salaudeen announced the result after counting conducted in the presence of party agents and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The governor, his deputy Kola Adewusi, and several members of the state executive attended the exercise, which took place under a heavy security presence.
Armed police officers and Department of State Services personnel were stationed at the venue while INEC observed proceedings.
Although the Accord Party’s national chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, led the party’s leadership to the event, several senior Osun PDP figures were notably absent, including State Chairman Sunday Bisi and House of Assembly Speaker Wale Egbedun.
Adeleke, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party on November 6, said he chose the Accord Party as a platform to pursue a second term in office.
He explained that the party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ welfare, workers’ wellbeing and the delivery of democratic dividends.
