Turaki Dismisses ‘False’ PDP Faction Claim as Unity Reaffirmed

PDP chairman Tanimu Turaki rejects the PDP faction claim as 29 state chairmen reaffirm full support for the NWC

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Tanimu Turaki on Wednesday dismissed what he described as a fabricated PDP faction claim, insisting the party remains united after 29 state chairmen reaffirmed their confidence in the National Working Committee during a meeting in Abuja.

Turaki, who was elected at the Ibadan national convention on 16 November, told the gathering that the presence of the state chairmen underscored the legitimacy of the NWC and discredited assertions by a group led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike’s allies.

Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu have continued to declare themselves Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary despite the transition ratified by PDP governors.

The meeting, attended physically by 29 chairmen with two sending apologies, reviewed recent moves by the Wike-backed group, which announced a separate 60-day caretaker committee on Sunday.

Turaki said the step was baseless and held no constitutional standing within the party.

He stressed that every decision taken by the NWC had been made in consultation with state chairmen, noting that the effectiveness of national leadership relies heavily on the cooperation of state structures.

Turaki said the turnout made it clear where the party’s authority lies, calling the gathering a powerful affirmation that the PDP’s leadership remains intact and uncontested. He described those laying claim to parallel leadership as individuals who “the whole world knows are not members of our party.”

The chairman assured the delegates that his leadership would return the PDP “to the people,” adding that the party is embarking on what he called a new mission to reclaim national governance from what he described as the APC’s retrogressive stewardship.

Turaki argued that the progress achieved during the PDP’s 16 years in federal office had been eroded under the current administration.
