Ali Ndume, speaking in a statement issued in Abuja, said the President’s renewed security drive is reclaiming previously ungoverned spaces and improving coordination among the country’s armed services.
A key component of the federal initiative is the directive to the Department of State Services to deploy its trained forest guards to flush out bandits operating in forests and isolated territories.
The President had earlier vowed that there would be no hiding places for violent groups, alongside ongoing plans to recruit more personnel into both the Nigerian Police Force and the Army.
Responding to the developments, Ndume welcomed the deployment order and the strengthened synergy across security formations.
He said the involvement of the forest guards has boosted military operations, noting that their training has significantly complemented the work of the Nigerian Army.
The legislator, who previously chaired the Senate Committee on Army, also commended improvements in troops’ welfare and morale.
He acknowledged recent upward adjustments to military remuneration but noted that salaries remain lower than those earned by personnel in some neighbouring countries.
Ndume added that he has observed stronger cooperation between the Armed Forces and other security agencies, describing the collaboration as commendable.
He also highlighted visible upgrades in equipment and logistics, including new arms, uniforms, protective helmets, boots and bulletproof vests.
Despite these gains, Ndume urged the government to intensify support for frontline troops. He said priority should be given to the procurement of additional attack helicopters, armoured personnel carriers and gun trucks to strengthen combat operations.

Representing Borno South Senatorial District, one of the regions most affected by insurgency, Ndume rounded off by praising Governor Babagana Zulum for his consistent support of military efforts in Borno State, describing the governor’s commitment as invaluable.
