Adamawa APC stability remains intact despite defections, says Mustapha Ribadu, insisting the party’s grassroots support will drive 2027 electoral success
Adamawa APC stability remains firm ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite recent defections by some party chieftains, the party’s leadership has declared.

Speaking to Arewa PUNCH in Yola on Monday, APC Organising Secretary Mustapha Ribadu insisted that the exit of a few individuals from the party will not derail its political trajectory.
“Winning elections is not about individuals,” Ribadu said, “it is about the grassroots people that are behind the party.”
He questioned the political relevance of the defectors, pointing to former Governor Senator Jibrilla Bindow as an example.
“He left, but who followed him? None of his 21 commissioners, local government chairmen, over 700 aides or 200 councillors left with him.”
Ribadu added that Bindow, despite his high profile, lost his polling unit, ward, and senatorial zone in the last general election, casting doubt on his electoral influence.
Similarly, he questioned the impact of Senator Aisha Binnani, stating that even her political ambassadors rebranded themselves under APC after her exit.
“Who exactly left with her?” he asked rhetorically.
Ribadu emphasized that big political names no longer carry weight in Adamawa, asserting that voters are now more concerned with results than legacy.
“The people have suffered years of deceit from such big names,” he said.
He acknowledged that the APC in Adamawa has had internal disagreements but described them as “controllable and manageable,” likening them to differences in a big family.
On speculation about replacing Vice President Kassim Shettima ahead of 2027, Ribadu dismissed it as irrelevant to governance.
“The president has constitutional powers to pick his deputy from anywhere. What matters is performance.”
He concluded by noting that good governance not political zoning is the party’s priority:
“If the president finds someone from Lagos who can work in the interest of Nigeria, let him appoint the person.”

Despite the shifting political winds, the Adamawa APC stability narrative is one the party seems determined to project going into the next electoral cycle.
