INEC bye-elections face scrutiny as ADC Chairman David Mark urges transparency and calls for free and fair polls in 10 states
INEC bye-elections are under intense scrutiny as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has raised strong concerns over the neutrality of the electoral umpire ahead of Saturday’s nationwide bye-elections.

Speaking in a goodwill message to ADC candidates contesting various seats across ten states, Mark called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver a transparent, free, and fair process to rebuild citizens’ confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.
The INEC bye-elections are scheduled to hold in Anambra, Edo, Oyo, Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Niger, and Ogun States — with the ADC fielding candidates in senatorial, House of Representatives, and state assembly races.
According to Mark, the elections provide an opportunity for INEC to correct its “damaged image” by ensuring that the process is not only credible but visibly impartial.
“All eyes are on the Commission to correct past mistakes. A credible election will not only redeem its reputation but also restore public trust,” he said.
The former Senate President described the ADC as a “child of necessity,” born out of the need to offer Nigerians a viable alternative to traditional party systems.
He appealed to voters to give the party a chance, praising its candidates for their courage and commitment.
Mark also urged ADC supporters to remain vigilant, follow electoral laws, and resist any form of manipulation or intimidation.
He stressed that the role of security agencies in ensuring a level playing field cannot be overstated.
“Security personnel must protect the will of the people, not suppress it. Democracy thrives only when fairness prevails,” he added.
