Tinubu’s global outreach to reinforce Nigeria’s diplomacy through TICAD9 and high‑level engagements in Brazil
Tinubu’s global outreach commences today, Thursday, August 14, as President Bola Tinubu departs Abuja on a crucial two-nation diplomatic mission to Japan and Brazil—marking a significant push to strengthen Nigeria’s international partnerships.

The journey includes an initial stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before arriving in Yokohama, Japan, where President Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) from August 20 to 22.
The conference centers on the theme “Co‑create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” and aims to drive Africa’s economic transformation through private investment and innovation, alongside fostering resilient and peaceful societies anchored in human security.
On the sidelines, Tinubu will engage in bilateral meetings and hold discussions with chief executives of Japanese businesses investing in Nigeria.
TICAD, a triennial summit launched by Japan in 1993 and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, alternates between venues in Japan and Africa.
The last edition was held in Tunisia in August 2022.
After TICAD9, President Tinubu will proceed to Brasilia on Sunday, August 24, for a two-day state visit to Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
There, he will conduct bilateral discussions, participate in a Nigeria–Brazil business forum, and support the signing of strategic agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade, agriculture, and industrial development.
His official delegation includes key ministers and senior government officials.
