Wike Issues Party Leadership Ultimatum Amid PDP Crisis

Wike’s party leadership ultimatum intensifies PDP crisis, calling for adherence to zonal congress outcomes ahead of the party’s crucial November convention

Party leadership ultimatum from Minister Nyesom Wike has intensified the crisis within the PDP just months ahead of the party’s national convention.

During a media briefing, Wike insisted that peace in the PDP can only be restored if decisions from the South-South zonal congress—specifically recognizing Chief Dan Orbih as National Vice Chairman—are respected.

“Ignoring this is an invitation to crisis,” Wike warned.

He also challenged the legitimacy of the South-East congress results due to court rulings disqualifying its leader, Chief Ali Odefa, emphasizing his stand against impunity within the party.

Wike further criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of persistent party defections driven by personal ambition rather than genuine political vision.

The Conference of Professionals in the PDP quickly dismissed Wike’s statements as distractions, affirming that leadership issues in the South-South and South-East zones were resolved according to party constitution and Supreme Court rulings.

Wike also hinted that the emergency rule in Rivers State could soon be lifted, following President Tinubu’s directive for local government elections within 30 days.
