Akpabio Praises Umo Eno for Peaceful APC Congress in Akwa Ibom

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commends Governor Umo Eno for leading a peaceful and inclusive APC congress in Akwa Ibom State

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has commended Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress, held at the Uyo Township Stadium.

Participating in the event, Akpabio observed that previous party congresses in the state were often marked by acrimony, factional disputes, and, at times, violence.

He praised Governor Eno for broad consultation and inclusive governance, which culminated in the emergence of a new executive committee through consensus, in line with party regulations.

A statement from the Special Assistant on Media/Communication to the Senate President, Anietie Ekong, quoted Akpabio as saying: “Congresses in the State were always characterised by factions. While some gathered here at the stadium, others would gather at a hotel to do their own parallel congress. But here we are in Akwa Ibom State conducting the congress as if we are in a church to take communion.”

The Senate President described the event as “uncommon, unprecedented, and will go down in history as the first most peaceful congress in Nigeria.”

He noted that even previous ward and local government congresses in other states had resulted in fatalities, but no untoward incidents occurred in Akwa Ibom.

Akpabio further lauded Governor Eno as a “true man of God who practices godliness in his heart,” highlighting the reconciliation of old political rivals and the demonstration of unity throughout the party.

The congress reaffirmed the support of party members for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, Senator Akpabio, and Governor Eno.

In his remarks, Governor Eno thanked Akpabio for his presence, which he said dignified the congress, and expressed gratitude to God for the peaceful proceedings across the ward, local government, and state levels.

The event also saw the re-election of Obong Stephen Ntukekpo as APC State Chairman, charged with leading the State Executive Committee while prioritising unity and grassroots mobilisation ahead of upcoming elections.
