PDP Chieftain Umar Sani Dismisses Wike Party Document Claim

Umar Sani dismisses Nyesom Wike’s claim over PDP documents, insisting party assets are controlled by the Board of Trustees

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umar Sani, has dismissed claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, suggesting control over party documents, insisting that such authority does not rest with him.

Sani made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he responded to recent comments made by Wike during a media briefing.

Wike had reportedly challenged the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the PDP to open any party account or office, threatening to seal it if established.

Reacting, Sani stated that Wike does not possess any legitimate documents of the party, stressing that control over such matters lies strictly with the PDP Board of Trustees.

“Wike cannot even claim to have the documents of the party, because by our party constitution, that responsibility is bestowed on the Board of Trustees,” he said.

He further explained that the recognised Board of Trustees, led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, serves as the official custodian of the party’s assets and conscience.

According to him, any contrary claim is not supported by the party’s constitutional framework and should not be taken as authoritative.

“So where does Wike have documents to say that he is holding the documents? He does not have any documents. He’s just on national television trying to impress Nigerians,” Sani added.

The exchange reflects ongoing internal tensions within the PDP, as different factions continue to assert influence over party structures and legitimacy.
