Isah Idris announced his resignation in a letter personally signed and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Gwaram, confirming his exit from the ruling party.
In the letter dated 7 May 2026, the former Speaker stated his decision clearly and without ambiguity, noting his long association with the party as both a founding member and key stakeholder.
“I wish to write and formally inform you about my decision to resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress, APC,” he wrote.
“As a former Speaker and founding member of the party, I hope the APC would uphold the principles and ideals it was formed. In view of this, I strongly believe it is the proper time for me to step aside.”
His resignation comes amid heightened political tension within the party, following reports of a recent screening exercise in which he was allegedly dropped as an aspirant and replaced by Ado Yakubu Zandam.
Although Isah Idris has not officially declared his next political destination, sources suggest he may be considering a move to either the African Democratic Congress, ADC, or the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In a related development, a statement attributed to the PDP Publicity Secretary, Umar Kyari Jitau, reportedly welcomed the former Speaker into the party, further fuelling speculation over his next political step.
