Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha is a prominent Nigerian politician, businessman, and philanthropist, widely recognized for his significant footprint in Imo State and national politics. Born on September 22, 1962, he first rose to national prominence through his philanthropic endeavors, particularly the Rochas Foundation, which provides free education to underprivileged children across Nigeria.
Okorocha’s political journey has been marked by ambition and versatility. After several attempts at various political offices, he successfully contested and served as the Governor of Imo State for two terms, from 2011 to 2019, under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His governorship was characterized by extensive infrastructure development, including roads and public buildings, and a notable free education policy.
Following his tenure as governor, he was elected as the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District in 2019, serving until 2023. Okorocha remains an influential voice within the APC and national politics, even amidst various controversies and legal challenges that have sometimes trailed his career.
