He served as the Governor of Nasarawa State from 1999 to 2007, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His tenure as governor was marked by various development initiatives, particularly in infrastructure and education.

Following his governorship, he was elected to the Senate, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, serving multiple terms.

Adamu’s political influence grew steadily, leading to his emergence as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in March 2022, a position he held until July 2023.

Throughout his career, he has been known for his strategic political maneuvering, vast experience, and deep understanding of the Nigerian political terrain.

His leadership at the helm of the ruling party played a crucial role in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.
