Taraba Governor Denies Cash Incentives in APC Defection

Taraba Governor Dr Agbu Kefas denies cash for APC defection, says his move was guided by conviction and strategic development plans

Taraba State Governor Dr Agbu Kefas has denied claims that financial incentives influenced his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming that his decision was guided by political conviction.

Speaking with State House correspondents after a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Kefas stated that he had received the blessings of elder statesman and former Defence Minister General Theophilous Danjuma before leaving the PDP.

“Nobody gave me money to defect to the APC,” Kefas said. “My decision was based on conviction and strategic considerations for the development of Taraba State.”

The governor expressed optimism about opportunities within the APC, noting improvements in security and governance outcomes across key sectors.

“Delivering Taraba will not be difficult because our policies are already impacting the grassroots,” he added.

Addressing rumours of a strained relationship with General Danjuma, Kefas insisted that no disagreements exist, describing the retired general as a respected father figure.

“Since we started politics, nothing has ever come between us. People just speculate, but there is no issue at all,” he said.

Kefas disclosed that discussions with President Tinubu focused on security, agriculture, and the welfare of Taraba residents.

He highlighted progress in security, saying incidents of violence and unrest have reduced, and praised initiatives in mechanised farming, with plans to expand local processing facilities to strengthen value addition and create jobs.
