Omoyele Sowore asserts Peter Obi did not win the 2023 presidential election, citing failure to defend his mandate effectively
Former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore has claimed that Peter Obi did not actually win the 2023 presidential election, attributing the failure to a lack of effective defence of his mandate.

Speaking at a public gathering, Sowore compared Obi’s situation to that of the late MKO Abiola, widely regarded as the winner of the 1993 presidential election but prevented from assuming office.
He stressed that, despite Abiola’s resources and popular support, insufficient manpower hindered the defence of his victory.
Sowore stated, “If I were the one who won any election, and I am not declared the winner, there is nobody who didn’t win the election that would be declared the winner and stay in that office. He will take my life; I will give it. Anyone who is not willing to die for his mandate is not worth voting for, even if it is a class captain. Power is never given on a platter of gold.”
The activist added that securing an electoral win requires committed supporters prepared to risk everything.
He argued that declaring a win without actively fighting for it is meaningless.
When asked whether he believed Obi won the election but failed to defend it, Sowore responded, “If you can’t fight for something, how can you declare you won it? You can look at the judiciary all you want, but the best you will catch is Apollo.”
