ADC Faces Internal Crisis as Two Factions Emerge

ADC party crisis deepens as Leke Abejide confirms emergence of two factions and ongoing court disputes within the party

The African Democratic Congress is facing an internal crisis following the emergence of two rival factions, a situation confirmed by House of Representatives member Leke Abejide.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm, Abejide highlighted growing tensions resulting from a coalition arrangement within the party.

Abejide explained that the ADC had remained stable until the coalition prompted parallel structures and divisions.

“We have two ADCs now: we have the coalition ADC, and we have the original ADC. So these are the two groups now in court, and we don’t know how it’s going to end,” he said.

The lawmaker, who represents the ADC as an elected official and has never defected, emphasised his loyalty.

“I am the only elected member of the ADC. Anybody you see in ADC today may have decamped to us recently, either in the House of Representatives or in the Senate. They were not elected on this platform; they were elected on different platforms,” Abejide said.

He added that most recent entrants into the party had joined only in the past few weeks. “I’ve never contested any election on any other platform apart from ADC, and I’ve never decamped. I remain in ADC,” he stressed.

Abejide also dismissed claims of his expulsion, reaffirming the continuity of the party’s recognised leadership.

“Nobody expelled me. My national chairman is still there, along with all our party executives,” he said. He further clarified that former Senate President David Mark is not a member of the ADC.

Political observers note that the ongoing court disputes between the factions may influence the party’s standing and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
