Rhodes-Vivour Confirms Peter Obi Backed His Move to ADC

Rhodes-Vivour says Peter Obi approved his switch to ADC, as opposition leaders plan coalition ahead of 2027 elections

Rhodes-Vivour Peter Obi alignment appears intact as the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, confirmed that his recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was done with the full knowledge and support of Mr. Peter Obi.

Speaking on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Rhodes-Vivour stated clearly that Obi’s camp is aware of every move he is making and that their political strategies remain aligned as 2027 approaches.

“Yes, certainly,” he replied when asked if Peter Obi approved of his switch. “A representative of his was at the declaration on Saturday. Peter Obi and I are communicating, we are aligned.”

He explained that their focus is now on building a coalition to challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in Lagos and nationally.

“There is no step I am taking that he is not aware of.

We have all agreed that the only way for the opposition to have a successful election is through a coalition,” he added.

Rhodes-Vivour Peter Obi connection may prove pivotal in future opposition alliances, especially in a politically complex state like Lagos, where the APC has long maintained a tight grip.

He declared that the belief that Lagos belongs to one man is false and dangerous. “That’s why my movement is called Our Lagos.

Lagos is our shared responsibility,” he said, in a clear swipe at President Bola Tinubu’s enduring political dominance in the state.

“The idea that our commonwealth can be commandeered by one man for over two decades is something I stand against,” Rhodes-Vivour emphasized, citing the poor state of infrastructure in places like Alimosho as evidence of governance failure.

He also condemned the use of security agents by local officials to suppress opposition activity.

“Violence is the last refuge of politicians,” he said, referencing the intimidation tactics used by some local government chairmen.

While some may see his party switch as a fracture within the Labour Party, Rhodes-Vivour insists that his goal remains consistent: delivering better governance and expanding opposition strength through unity and collaboration.
