Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has retained his deputy, Mani Malam Mummuni, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, describing him as a dependable partner whose contribution has supported the administration’s progress.

The governor announced the decision on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, at the Government House in Gusau, where he presented Mummuni with an official confirmation letter.
The decision to Lawal Retains Deputy signals continuity within the Zamfara administration as the governor prepares for another electoral contest, with Lawal highlighting the importance of trust and teamwork in achieving government objectives.
Lawal praised Mummuni’s commitment, loyalty, patience and humility, saying the deputy governor had played an important role in advancing the administration’s development plans.
He said their strong working relationship, combined with Mummuni’s experience and sound judgement, had contributed to progress in areas such as infrastructure development and good governance.
The governor added that the achievements recorded by his administration were the result of collective efforts, noting that the deputy governor had made valuable contributions to the implementation of government programmes.
In his response, Mummuni expressed appreciation to Lawal for the confidence placed in him and thanked God for the opportunity to continue serving the people of Zamfara.
He pledged to remain committed to the administration’s vision and promised to continue supporting policies focused on infrastructure, public services and improved living conditions for residents.
Mummuni’s retention comes as political parties across Nigeria begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with governors and candidates making early decisions on partnerships and campaign structures.
