Radda Signs Historic Katsina Budget After Swift Approval

Katsina Governor Dikko Radda signs the 2026 Appropriation Bill after swift approval, marking a historic low in recurrent spending.

Katsina State Governor Mallam Dikko Radda on Wednesday in Katsina signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total spending plan of N897,865,078,282, after what he described as a rapid legislative process by the Katsina State House of Assembly.

Radda said the bill, now law, allocates N167,725,372,458 to recurrent expenditure and N730,139,705,823 to capital projects.

He noted that the recurrent share represents the lowest in the state’s history and aligns with the fiscal discipline principles championed under the administration of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

He added that the Assembly passed the bill on 25 November, only 21 days after he presented the proposal, praising lawmakers for what he called an efficient and diligent review process.

The governor described the spending plan as “the people’s budget,” explaining that it was shaped by extensive town hall meetings held across all 361 wards, where residents identified their most pressing needs.

He said failing to integrate public input would have been unreasonable for an administration committed to improving livelihoods.

Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly Nasir Daura said the House unanimously endorsed the proposal without alteration after what he described as a rigorous scrutiny phase.

He said legislators asked critical questions to ensure the budget supported the development blueprint of the Radda administration and delivered genuine benefits to citizens.
