Governor Yusuf, in a statement by his spokesperson Sunusi Tofa on Wednesday, praised the swift response of troops and other security agencies following recent attacks, saying their actions had restored public confidence.
He made the remarks while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Muhammad Wase, at the Government House, Kano. The GOC was in the state to assess the security situation in the affected communities and to boost troop morale.
Maj. Gen. Wase, whose late father Col. Muhammad Abdullahi Wase served as Military Sole Administrator of Kano in 1994, expressed an emotional connection to the visit. “Since assuming command at 1 Division, I have visited the scenes of recent attacks to commend our gallant officers,” he said.
Governor Yusuf thanked the military for its bravery and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing service chiefs “who are deeply committed to restoring national security.”
He announced the donation of 10 Hilux trucks and 60 motorcycles to the Joint Task Force operating in the state, reaffirming his government’s determination to combat banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling.
Similarly, Senator Barau Jibrin lauded the troops for their decisive action against bandits attempting to infiltrate Kano from neighbouring states.
In a statement issued by his media aide Ismail Mudashir, he praised the gallantry of the Joint Task Force Operation MESA, led by the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, which neutralised 19 bandits on 1 November following actionable intelligence.
“I also mourn the two gallant soldiers and a vigilante who paid the ultimate price securing our communities,” Barau said. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities promptly. “We will not allow these marauding criminals to destabilise our communities,” he added.
During an operational assessment visit to Farin Ruwa and Tsaure Forward Operating Bases, Maj. Gen. Wase praised the troops’ bravery and pledged continued support from the Chief of Army Staff to ensure lasting peace in the region.
According to Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, the visit followed a 2 November bandit incursion that left two soldiers and a Civilian Joint Task Force member dead. Wase met with troops, received feedback on operational challenges, and offered fresh guidance.
He also inspected security positions along the Kano–Katsina border axis, identified as a major infiltration route for bandits, and reaffirmed the army’s resolve to sustain the offensive.
