Represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, President Bola Tinubu unveiled the bold programme at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, calling it a cornerstone of a healthier Nigeria”.

He described the initiative as a national priority and a long-overdue answer to one of the nation’s most pressing needs.

“There is no greater test of a nation’s character than the care it extends to its women,” Tinubu declared, underlining the administration’s intent to make women’s health a cornerstone of Nigeria’s development journey.

The RenewHER programme introduces a Presidential Focal Office on Women’s Health, which will collaborate closely with the Federal Ministry of Health, State-Wide Approach Coordination Office (SWAp), the Ministry of Women Affairs, and the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum.

The initiative promises deep-rooted integration of women’s health priorities at all levels—federal, state, and local.

Crucially, Tinubu announced the creation of an AI-powered National Women’s Health Digital Hub.

This digital platform will deliver location-specific campaigns on maternal survival, preventive healthcare, adolescent health, and health workforce development.

It aims to connect Nigerian women and families with credible health information while linking healthcare to national prosperity and entrepreneurship.

“Maternal mortality is a shame against which we must all rally,” Tinubu said emphatically, vowing to support all tiers of government until RenewHER achieves measurable outcomes.

The programme will complement existing national schemes such as MAMII and align with international health and development partners.

First Lady of Kwara State and Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, reinforced the forum’s commitment to supporting RenewHER in all states.

Meanwhile, Dr Adanna Steinacker, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Women’s Health, emphasised that the initiative reflects Tinubu’s personal vision of placing women’s health at the heart of national progress.

United Nations Women Country Representative, Ms Beatrice Eyong, called RenewHER a “turning point” for Nigeria.
She lauded the initiative as the first high-level government-led movement that recognises women’s health as a true driver of socio-economic advancement.
