Peter Obi Tony Nwoye Senate Minority Whip praise as Obi congratulates Nwoye and urges him to serve humanity and protect national unity
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has described the emergence of Senator Tony Nwoye as Senate Minority Whip as a welcome development and an opportunity for expanded service to Nigerians.

Mr Obi made the remarks in a statement issued on Thursday, where he congratulated Senator Tony Nwoye on his new role and urged him to prioritise the welfare of citizens, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
Peter Obi hails Tony Nwoye’s appointment as Senate Minority Whip with messages emphasised leadership grounded in compassion and national responsibility, with the former Anambra State governor calling on the senator to use his new position to advance the common good.
Obi also encouraged Nwoye to remain committed to national unity and the pursuit of what he described as a “new Nigeria,” stressing that public office should be guided by service and integrity.
He further wrote that the elevation offers a greater platform for meaningful impact, urging the senator to remain focused on improving the lives of Nigerians who look to leadership for hope and direction.
Senator Tony Nwoye, who represents Anambra North Senatorial District, was unanimously selected as Senate Minority Whip during Wednesday’s plenary session.
His appointment followed the defection of the previous Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu, from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Nwoye was first elected to the Senate in 2023 under the Labour Party platform before later moving to the African Democratic Congress in 2025, marking a notable shift in his political journey.
