The PDP Wike Faction Reconciliation move was confirmed on Monday during an appearance by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme, where he spoke on the deepening internal divisions within the party.
Jungudo Mohammed stated that the faction had repeatedly reached out to the Turaki group to engage in talks aimed at forming a single, stronger PDP, but said those efforts had not been reciprocated.
“As for the reconciliation, following the advisory position of the Court of Appeal Ibadan, even prior to that time, we have always extended an invitation to the Turaki group to come forward so that we can have one single, formidable PDP,” Jungudo Mohammed said.
He noted that recent judicial pronouncements from the Court of Appeal had further complicated timelines for political parties, stressing that the Electoral Act and INEC timetable had placed additional pressure on reconciliation efforts.
“Time is not on our side. The new Electoral Act has further made things quite very tight for political parties and aspirants alike,” he added.
Jungudo Mohammed explained that while reconciliation remains open, the faction may be forced to move forward with plans if no agreement is reached, citing the need to provide a functional platform for aspiring candidates.
He emphasised that the Wike-backed group still believes in unity, but insisted that progress cannot be stalled indefinitely if other stakeholders refuse to engage.
