Warmate made the announcement during an interview with Trust TV, emphasising that the position taken by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, is personal and does not reflect the party’s stance.
“The PDP position is that we will produce a presidential candidate from the top,” Warmate stated.
“We are not considering supporting the sitting president from the APC. Wike’s opinion is personal, and the party remains committed to presenting a credible candidate from the south.”
The party leader noted that the decision aligns with internal zoning arrangements, which prioritise the presidency for the southern region, and addresses internal party dynamics that have shaped the 2027 election strategy.
Warmate also stressed that the PDP is focused on unity and credibility, assuring supporters that its candidate selection process will reflect the party’s commitment to democratic principles.
Analysts have interpreted the statement as a clear signal that the party is consolidating its strategy to compete vigorously in the upcoming elections.
The comments come amid ongoing political discourse around cross-party endorsements and the roles of influential figures in shaping public opinion ahead of the national polls.
