Osun Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Defects Back to PDP after citing concerns over the APC’s ticket process ahead of the 2027 elections
Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has announced his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending his one-year stay in the All Progressives Congress (APC) after expressing dissatisfaction with the party’s senatorial ticket process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Fadeyi confirmed on Thursday that he had formally notified the Senate of his decision to leave the APC and rejoin the PDP.
He also declared that he had emerged as the PDP’s candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District under the faction led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Defects Back to PDP decision follows growing political tensions in Osun State over candidate selection as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
“I am back in the PDP led by the FCT Minister, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike. I have already written to the Senate,” Fadeyi said.
“I can also confirm that I am the candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District for the 2027 Senate election.”
Fadeyi had left the PDP in July 2025 alongside four other National Assembly members to join the APC, a move he said was intended to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the President’s home state while pursuing another term in the Senate.
However, the APC later selected Senior Advocate of Nigeria Adekunle Adegoke as its candidate for the Osun Central senatorial seat, a development that prompted the lawmaker to reconsider his political future.
In his resignation letter, Fadeyi said he joined the APC in good faith after receiving assurances that the party’s nomination process would be based on consensus and fairness.
“I joined the APC as a progressive party in good faith to support Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his ancestral home, which falls within my senatorial district,” the letter stated.
The senator argued that the promised consensus arrangement never materialised and accused the party of failing to uphold internal democratic principles.
“Recent developments from the leadership of the APC in Osun State have created serious trust issues within the party and made my continued membership of the party untenable. No consensus process was genuinely conducted, nor were party primaries held in a transparent and acceptable manner,” he said.
Fadeyi also expressed disappointment that while other federal lawmakers who defected alongside him reportedly secured return tickets, he was denied the opportunity to contest under the APC despite earlier expectations.
A notable development in his announcement was his insistence that his departure should not be interpreted as opposition to President Tinubu.
Instead, he said his decision reflected a belief that political parties should honour agreements and uphold fairness, transparency and mutual trust in their internal processes.

The defection adds another twist to the evolving political landscape in Osun State, where rival factions within the PDP and intensified competition among the major parties are expected to shape preparations for the 2027 general elections.
