2027: Osun ADC Urges Nigerians to Vote Out APC

Osun ADC urges Nigerians to reject APC in 2027, citing economic hardship and defending Rauf Aregbesola’s record as former governor

The Osun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Nigerians to vote against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, accusing the party of failing to demonstrate the capacity to govern the country effectively.

The opposition party also dismissed allegations that it had failed to pay its secretariat staff for more than a year, describing the claim as an attempt to undermine its credibility and portray it as unfit to govern.

The position was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Osun ADC Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede, in response to remarks attributed to the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

The ADC argued that the ruling party’s attempt to question its capacity to govern was neither based on sound reasoning nor a credible assessment of its leadership potential.

“The APC’s attempt to portray the ADC as a party incapable of governing Nigeria is neither an argument based on sound reasoning nor a credible assessment of our capacity to lead,” the statement said.

The party accused the APC of diverting attention from the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians, including rising living costs, insecurity and increasing financial pressure on households and businesses.

It added that Nigerians wanted leadership capable of delivering tangible results rather than political statements attacking opposition parties.

“Nigerians are interested in leadership that delivers results, not an administration that issues statements condemning its opponents while struggling to convince citizens that its own record deserves another mandate,” the statement added.

The party also criticised the APC Presidential Campaign Council over its alleged targeting of the ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, particularly regarding salary modulation and outstanding pension obligations during his eight-year tenure as governor of Osun State.

The ADC accused the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, and the ruling party of reducing Aregbesola’s administration to a single issue while overlooking its policies and projects in infrastructure, education and other sectors.

Citing achievements it attributed to the former administration, the party said it constructed 170 model schools, comprising 100 elementary schools, 50 middle schools and 20 high schools.

It also highlighted reduced fees in state-owned tertiary institutions, bursary payments and support for medical students undertaking clinical training abroad.

On youth development, the party cited the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (O-YES), which it said created employment opportunities for thousands of young people.

The ADC further listed road projects involving more than 300 kilometres of township roads and 222 kilometres of rural roads, supported by interventions from the World Bank and the French government under the Rural Access and Mobility Project.

In healthcare, the party said the administration upgraded or rehabilitated more than nine state hospitals and 12 comprehensive health centres.

It also cited the establishment of the Osun Ambulance Service.

Other initiatives mentioned included the Omoluabi Garment Factory, the O’Clean environmental sanitation programme and projects aimed at reducing flooding.

The party also pointed to social welfare programmes such as Agba Osun for older residents and O-Widow for widows, alongside measures to support agriculture and food production.

The Osun ADC maintained that it would focus on policy proposals and practical solutions rather than engage in exchanges of insults with the APC.

It urged Nigerians to assess the ruling party’s performance and make their decisions based on the welfare of citizens when they vote in the 2027 general elections.

“The time has come for Nigerians to reject political propaganda and demand accountable leadership that prioritises the welfare of the people. We urge voters to use their ballots in the 2027 general elections to decide the ruling party’s political future,” the statement concluded.

The party’s appeal comes as political parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with economic conditions, security and the performance of the current administration featuring prominently in political debate.
