Ahmed Doro Defects From APC to PDP Ahead of 2027 Polls

Ahmed Doro Defects From APC to PDP after consultations with constituents, saying the move will strengthen representation for Bindawa/Mani

Ahmed Yusuf Doro, the member representing Bindawa/Mani Federal Constituency of Katsina State in the House of Representatives, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing consultations with his constituents and a desire to strengthen representation.

The lawmaker’s defection was announced during Thursday’s plenary after Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas read Doro’s formal notification letter to members of the House.

The move took effect from July 18, 2026, according to the letter submitted to the Speaker, marking another political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In the letter dated July 18, Doro said his decision followed extensive discussions with constituents and careful consideration of what he described as the most effective path towards improving service delivery and representation for the people of Bindawa/Mani Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker said joining the PDP would allow him to continue pursuing the interests of his constituents while maintaining his responsibilities as a member of the 10th House of Representatives.

Doro expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and members for their support during his time in the party, acknowledging the role they played throughout his membership.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation and sustainable development initiatives for his constituency under his new political platform.

The defection adds to a series of political movements among lawmakers as Nigerian parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Doro’s move is expected to influence political calculations in Katsina State, where the APC has traditionally maintained strong support and the PDP continues efforts to strengthen its presence ahead of future contests.
